The Spartan Training Studio is Celebrating its 3rd Christmas Holiday Season…
This is the time of year many of our clients disappear into the excitement of holiday activities, shopping, socializing, and enjoying the holidays. The Christmas season finds many of us very busy, planning holiday parties and shopping for family and loved ones… if ever there was a time when we find ourselves too busy to exercise…Christmas season may well be that time…
So if you have made up your mind to put exercise on the back burner…then enjoy this holiday season…without feeling guilty about not exercising or eating right….sometimes it is good to step away from our normal daily activities and change our behavior a little…it may give you a better perspective on why you exercise and follow a healthy nutrition plan the rest of the year…
Just remember the time you take off from your training program…the body will begin to decondition and detrain…which means you will lose your current level of fitness…typically if you take two weeks off from training…it will take about two to three weeks to return to your current level of fitness…However there are some positive benefits in taking about 5 to 7 days off every 3 months…
Most of you have heard me talk about hitting the stretch position for total activation of muscle fiber. Activation happens when the neurotransmitter signals from the brain reach the sites found at the axon endings of motor neurons, where they stimulate and activate muscle fibers. The receptors sites down-regulate or desensitize and oxidize over a period of time. Three months can be considered an extend training period that would cause down-regulation and so there is benefit in taking time off to rebuild and clean receptors…Five to seven days seems to be just about the right amount of time needed for the body to up-regulate the receptor sites.
As I stated in our last newsletter, during the holiday season the average person gains 5 to 15 pounds. The weight gained during your time off from exercise…can usually be measured and determined under the same circumstances…if you gained five pounds or more during a two week layoff…it will most likely take two to three weeks to lose the weight again…
For those of you who are training during this holiday season…it is probably clear to you that exercise and healthy nutrition are now simply a part of your lifestyle…so it takes very little effort to get yourself to the studio for your training sessions…when people really understand the importance of exercise and nutrition in relation to living a healthy life…the transformation happens…it is no longer a battle to get yourself to your training sessions…it becomes a natural part of your life and you simply enjoy the health benefits that accompany this lifestyle…
In closing out this holiday season…Vicki and I would just like to stop for a moment and thank all our clients for allowing us to be a part of their journey to optimal health and fitness through exercise and nutrition…each of you have enriched our lives… in your own unique way...
Merry Christmas…
…Happy Healthy New Year
